Where is the wine stored?

At CultX, we provide secure storage in our UK-bonded warehouse facilities, maintaining ideal conditions for your wines. With rigorous security measures, your wines remain safe and insured until delivery.

Our storage offers microclimate control with electronically managing temperature and humidity to preserve wine quality. With 24/7 CCTV security and a comprehensive insurance policy, your investment is fully protected against any potential loss or damage. Additional authenticity checks can be performed by trained experts using dedicated equipment in our warehouse.

How can I be sure my transactions are authentic and secure?

We have a risk profile that we run on every case of wine added to the inventory.

If a bottle of wine falls outside that risk profile, for example, a 20-year-old bottle - it undergoes a rigorous inspection by our expertly trained specialists to ensure optimal condition .

We carry out additional authenticity checks where possible using specialist equipment and training.

Which wines are available?

CultX comprises over 350,000 wines, all of which can easily be discovered via the app.

How do I purchase wine on the app?

Step 1: Ensure Your Wallet is Ready

Before making a purchase, you'll need either funds in your Wallet or a saved card with the 'Merchant Initiated Transactions' (MIT) feature enabled.

To Top Up Funds: Navigate to the ‘Wallet’ in the top right corner of the app and select ‘Top Up’ at the top of the page. For first-time users, a short eKYC form may be required. Once your eKYC is verified and your Wallet is topped up, you’re ready to make a purchase.
To Save a Card: Go to ‘Wallet’ and select ‘Add Card’ in the ‘Saved cards’ section on the right side. Fill out the required fields and click ‘Confirm.’ You might need to complete a secondary authentication from your card issuer. The MIT feature allows your saved card to be automatically charged when you make a ‘Buy Now’ purchase or when one of your active bids is matched to an offer.

Step 2: Make Your Purchase

Through Bidding: After finding a wine you want, select your preferred Vintage and Unit Size. Check the ‘Order Book’ on the Product page to see available offers. Click the Buy/Trade button, select ‘Bid,’ and enter your desired bid price and quantity. If your bid matches an available offer, the transaction will be processed instantly.
Through Buy Now: Select the wine you wish to purchase, choose the Vintage and Unit Size, and click the Buy/Trade button. Choose ‘Buy Now,’ and you’ll be shown the wines with the lowest offers first. If the price and quantity meet your needs, simply click ‘Buy Now,’ and the wines will be added to your portfolio.

Can I invest in wine by the case?

Most of the wines available on the CultX platform are by the case, with a variety of different case sizes possible.

You can select your chosen case size from the ‘Unit Size’ dropdown on the product page.

Can I add my fine wine portfolio to my collection on the app?

Yes, it is possible to have your personal portfolio added to your CultX collection.

You can manually add your personal cellar through the ‘External Portfolio’ section under ‘Portfolio’. Simply click the ‘+’ on the right-hand side to start.

Please note: You cannot trade the wines in your External Portfolio on the application, but you will be able to view their current Market Value and any bids/offers out against them.

Are there trading fees?

Trading fees are 2.5% (ex-VAT) on both sides of the trade (bid and offer).

Once our initial ‘free storage’ period expires, storage charges will apply at industry-leading rates, to be published in Q4 2024.

How are the wines valued?

We cleanse our data through an outlier detection model. We then use the resulting data to set market prices, based on percentile calculations of bond offers, or, equivalent retail offers, where insufficient bond offers are available.

This equivalence in the case of lack bond offers is done based on a regional calculation.

What is investment grade wine?

Investment-grade wines are wines that have the potential to appreciate over time.

The main characteristics of investment-grade wines are:

High Quality: Only the world’s finest wines from recognised prestigious regions are generally considered investment wines. The track record of a single producer, a high-quality appellation as well as critic scores are all indicators of quality.
Ability to Age: Investment wines improve with age in bottle. As a wine ages and approaches a drinking window, demand generally rises, leading to price appreciation.
Scarcity: Limited quantity is an important ingredient in creating an investment wine. Strong brand awareness – a wine’s investment potential improves if it has a strong, international following as a fine wine.

What is Bidding Headroom, and how does it work?

Bidding Headroom is a feature that allows you to bid on wines with up to £25,000 of flexibility without needing to top up your account immediately. When you place a bid, your available headroom decreases accordingly.

For instance, if you place £5,000 worth of bids, your headroom drops to £20,000. If your bid is matched by a seller, the platform will automatically charge your saved card for the matched bid, and your headroom will return to £25,000.

This feature is enabled by adding a card to the platform and allowing Merchant Initiated Transactions (MITs), simplifying and streamlining your wine trading experience.

How does the wine delivery/transfer process work on CultX?

After purchasing wine through CultX, you can arrange for the wine to be delivered or transferred according to your preferences.

You can manage these options via our Delivery and Transfer page, which provides all the necessary information for scheduling delivery, including any associated fees and timelines.

Can I sell wines directly through the CultX platform?

Yes, CultX now offers a sellable feature that allows you to list your wines directly on the platform. You can set your own prices or use our pricing suggestions based on current market data. This feature makes it easy to manage your portfolio and capitalise on market opportunities.
